Fosgerau from Hinnerup Net A\/S and Henrik H\u00f8j Madsen from LEGO presented a session about a number of development challenges and learnings from developing <a href=\"http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/733bq9r\">a scalable and distributed GPGPU 3D optimization and rendering system<\/a>  (link no longer works &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/blog\/2012\/05\/16\/lego-locks-in-on-cuda-to-build-a-better-business\/\">new link here<\/a>)for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lego.com\">LEGO<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The system consists of 16 blade servers of the type <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/object\/product_quadroplex_2200_s4_us.html\">NVIDIA Optiplex 2200 S4<\/a>, each containing four <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/object\/product_quadro_fx_5800_us.html\">NVIDIA Quadro FX 5800 GPUs<\/a>, summing up to a total of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>64 Quadro FX 5800 GPUs<\/li>\n<li>256 Gb GPU memory<\/li>\n<li>15360 CUDA cores<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We participated the full conference and have returned home with new ideas, inspiration and knowledge for future projects within the field of <a href=\"http:\/\/gpgpu.org\/\">GPGPU<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Massively_parallel\">massive parallel computing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomshardware.co.uk\/nvidia-gpu-technology-conference-gtc-jen-hsun-huang-geforce,news-38563.html\">Graphic cards are not just for games and fancy effects<\/a>. Vast computational power hides away in many modern GPU cards. During the conference, NVIDIA launched their new flag ship model, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geforce.com\/whats-new\/articles\/article-keynote\/\">GTX 690 card<\/a> that contains <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theregister.co.uk\/2012\/03\/22\/nvidia_kepler_gpu_preview\/\">two Kepler GPUs<\/a> with a shared computational power of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/GeForce_600_Series\">2 x 2,810.88 GFLOPS (FMA)<\/a>, or approx. 5.6 TFLOPS. This was just recently what could be squeezed out of a supercomputer (around year 2000).
